Nigel Birrell started the consultancy in 1987, with the experience gained in both the garage business and managing a company fleet of 60 vehicles.

Working as a fleet manager whilst running a car/commercial vehicle servicing centre gave Nigel a unique insight into "both" sides of the business, and trying to balance the needs of minimum costs/downtime as a fleet user, whilst maintaining a profit centre in the garage, proved to be a valuable learning process.

Since 1987 Nigel Birrell has advised many leading East Anglian companies, doing consultancy documents for all types of businesses, and they now provide a bespoke fleet management service for seven companies, with a fleet size of nearly 500 including a large regional property partnership, an accountancy firm and a national supplier of cleaning equipment.

These companies have all discovered the advantages of using specialists in certain roles, and the outsourcing of the fleet management requirements has been a valuable aid to reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

Nigel Birrell Fleet Management Consultants are also used by many other companies for their acquisition and disposal of their company vehicles. Fifteen years in the business has produced excellent relationships with the manufacturers and their dealers, and the buying power of a 500 fleet size can be utilised for the smaller clients. The individual service also includes sourcing of used vehicles; indeed, nearly new vehicles are still an advantageous way for certain types of companies to procure their vehicles.
